Archive review: This retrospective assessment uses surviving Hirst & Hirst records and contemporary press material. It is not a claim that the product is currently stocked or newly tested.

What was it?

The Babies Go series reworked familiar artists into instrumental lullaby arrangements. Hirst & Hirst stocked editions based on Take That, Michael Jackson, the Rolling Stones, ABBA, Coldplay, the Beatles, Oasis and U2. The Take That edition was noted as the shop’s most popular.

Design and usefulness

The product was aimed as much at parents as babies: recognisable melodies without the repetition of conventional nursery-rhyme recordings. In 2026 the CD itself is a period object, but the idea remains common in streaming playlists.

What worked

  • Recognisable music in a gentler format
  • Wide range of artist-themed editions
  • Contemporary Radio 2 reference in the archive
  • Easy small gift for new parents

Points to consider

  • No original product photograph recovered
  • Physical CD format is less convenient today
  • Arrangement quality may vary by edition

Buying or collecting one today

Collectors should check the disc surface, booklet and case. Listeners primarily interested in the music should compare currently licensed digital alternatives.

Hirst & Hirst verdict

A charming period gift whose physical-CD format is now as nostalgic as its musical premise.
