Our retrospective reviews use surviving product photographs, Hirst & Hirst Living’s original writing, archived press coverage, recorded prices and identifiable manufacturer information.
What the rating means
Ratings consider the originality of the design, usefulness, clarity of purpose, materials, longevity and whether the product still feels relevant. A high rating is not a statement about current availability.
Limitations
Where we have not physically retested an item, we say so. Where a photograph has not survived, we use a clearly labelled editorial illustration rather than pretending it is the original product.
